Volcanus, Firelands Legendary Quest Boss

After looting the 25 embers and doing some quests at the bosses in firelands, the quest for the legendary staff Dragonwrath, Tarecgosa’s Rest leads you to the Quest Delegation. You need to fight an Ancient Protector and he will empower the player who is doing the quest to fight Volcanus. The fight is pretty simple, but at the same time, some of you may not have seen it yet.

Delegation

This starts by using the 4 charged foci to create The Circle of Thorns Portal to the Anvil of Conflgration. There you ahve to kill the Guardians and the Ancient Protector, once that one is weakened he will turn frienldy and help the questing player versus Volcanus. Upon killing Volcanus the Branch of Nordrassil can be looted.

It is not a difficult encounter, but maybe some of you have not seen it yet. Here, enjoy!

Not much to post these days

The recent lack of news postings isn’t due to slacking. There is simply not much to say about the state of Enhancement Shamans these days. During PTR already I posted about the Fire Nova changes, which are so awkward to use, and no other changes affect us, yet.

The lack of new content is kind of disturbing. Do you recall any other expansion, or even vanilla that had 6 month into it no new content? Even Wrath of the Lich King, which many players complained as coming too late, released Ulduar sooner.
Now all we get are jsut old, warmed up instances, someof us have been running since 2005. While you can see that they put some effort into Zul’Gurub, Zul’aman seems to be pretty much the same, tuned down for 5 man of course, as during the Burning Crusade.
This seems to be a bit meager to keep us motivated to play, especially with at least 2 months of PTR and summer standing between us and new content.

Firelands

Blizzard started last week to reveal bits of information about the upcoming Firelands raid. The intention seems to not give out too much at once, after all they need to keep us interested for the at least 2 months, the time new raid tiers spent at PTR.

This makes you wonder if they really plan to release Firelands mid july or if they plan to delay it even a bit further to keep you playing WoW while SWTOR, Star Wars: The Old Republic is getting ready for release.

We already payed the cataclysm expansion and a good 78 euro monthly fees since november and haven’t got naything but delayed bug fixes, rewarmed old content and a game in an horrible unbalanced state.

All this greed for our money is slowly getting a bit overhand. Just look at the Blizzcon Tickets – the price was raised from 100$ (2005) to 175$ (2011). Also look at all these new premium services. Mobile Auction House, mobile Guild Chat … Anarchy Online had these for free a good 10 years ago.

Last years survey had a question “Would you pay for an 11th char slot?” and then added arrows/scrollbars to the character selection screen during cataclysm beta.

At least I slowly feel like I am becoming milked a bit too much this way.

Quality Assurance

The QA since cataclysm just seems horrible. So many numbers have been off the expected values by more than just a little bit. For example the fix to Guild Cauldrons, which was tuned down from 25000 Flasks to 3000, which is only 12% of the original value, or 833% off if you prefer to look it at the other way. This kind of bad assumptions and sloppy foresight can be found throughout the game curently.

With a game as complex as WoW you need to get the DEVs some credit, I guess. No QA can foresee total unrelated issues or test everything. When I was game master in 2006 a new patch broke “the battle of darrowshire”, but this was ok, since it wasn’t related in any way to the changes that came (think it was the Ahn’Qiraj Patch).
But how can it be possible in current content major issues are simply slipped by. It took them a while to realize that on soem encounters adds (e.g. Maloriak) had the same hitpoints and that the incoming damage (e.g. Valiona & Theralion) was the same on 10 and 25 man. It was even design goal to perfectly balance 10 and 25 man raids, but turned out to be sloppy implemented.

How can there be so many bugs in Zul’Gurub, Zul’Aman, a freshly developped instance … I mean normal mobs drop epics and get farmed. This was an issue in ICC-heroics aswell, how hard can it be to predict people would actually try to farm them? Also the bug that the Zandalarian BoE items could not be mailed and other Bugs related to Zandalarian instances that required a hotfixed. This kind of bugs should simply not happen.

If you look at the WoL Logs it makes you wonder if they haven’t realized 6 months into the Expansion that bringing a Moonkin or Shadow Priest counts 1.5-1.8 players worth per raid slot and is a bit unfair towards the other classes. But these fixes take forever to adjust.

So many things are out of whack right now – I am not even talking about PvP.

How does it look on your realm currently?

things aren’t running too well for Borked on Ravencrest at the moment. People quitting the game, leaving to greener pastures and other guilds massrecruiting our people. Even top guilds report that they can fill their current roster only by mass recruiting people faster than they can quit
I think that the above mentioned reasons eventually lead to this.

It does not seem to be an issue related only to Borked though, generally I see many people quit left and right. This is quite unusual, since the summer wave of quitters hasn’t even come yet. Of course I do not have the numbers to back these things up, it is just a matter of subjective observation. For example 2 months ago it took 72 hours before a ticket was answered, and now it is down to 1-2 hours. There are manifold reasons for this but not all can be explained by fixed bugs, lack of game mechanic changes (which raise a lot of questions), but not all of it. Also I doubt that mid expansion, especially before summer blizzard employed a ton of staff to battle the queue

Wouldn’t it be nice if WoW got a real rival, that would drag a few million players away? I guess this is the only way that would motivate blizzard and beloved Mr Bobbby Kotic (read this link if you do not know who he is) to actually improve the things that are going wrong. Unless … they just let WoW run as it is and focus on their new project already.

“Game of Thrones” is an HBO adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s epic fantasy novel series “A Song of Ice and Fire”. The show explores a medieval-like world with its plethora of characters all struggling in the only game that matters — the game of thrones

I absolutely love the show so far. First episode introduced the main characters, second episode focussed on the children and third episode focussed on side characters. Since the episodes are all dense packed with information, it helped me to look at The Game of Thrones Wiki to cross relate some information.

Borked Progress: Twin Dragons Valiona and Theralion heroic

A steep learning curve that felt like a 10 km mountain on our heads, mostly caused by what felt like 1000 disconnects and 20-23 player progression we finally got the fabulous 25 for some decent tries together. Fortunately I happened to fraps the show for you!

This fabublous kill has everything you could possibly want to see, unless ofc you are here to see twilight realm! The video is from an enhancement shaman’s point of view and also available in full hd on youtube! Sadly a sacrifice for the greater had to be done. I’ll leave it up to you to discover.

Borked: Halion (Heroic Ruby Sanctum 25 player)

This summer wasn’t particulalry nice to us Soccer World Championship, hot hot summer, vacation, unstable realm Ravencrest – Ravencrest locked down each day during prime time for a couple of hours for 1.5 months, which made progressive raiding impossible.
But last night we finally had a full team and downed Halion.

Borked: Halion (Heroic Ruby Sanctum 25 player)

We did not have many evenings on Halion before and had to kill him normal mode due to above reasons. Last night however it was going good after a few tries and a kill suddenly seemed in range.

Early low percentage wipes were a good sign of progress and we optimize handling of adds in Phase 3. Spurred on by further decent tries, apart from occasional Twilight Cutter fail, we finally managed to wipe at 1% with some early deaths

Everyone raised focus and then the fat dragon died.

A big grats to Borked for this kill.

Borked: The Frostwing Halls (heroic)

After what felt like and endless amount of tries and many many 3-8% wipes, we finally got Sindragosa on heroic mode with the last possible try (2/35).

You can’t possibly feel the weight that fell off our shoulders and the tension that built up during the last 2 minutes of this fight.

As you can easily see here the fight was a pretty close call at the end, about to hit the enrage timer and a tank death during the fight. Fortunately we made it anyhow!

I kind of like the challenges hard modes provide right now. I recall durin the last weeks we just rushed through ICC, with no need to optimize anything and just zerged through the encounters.

But now with so many heroic modes like Festergut/Saurfang/Blood Queen that we actually had to work for the reward is a sensation of achieving something, which is what raiding used to make out.

Borked: Tribute to Insanity

So we finally did a Tribute to Insanity today, Trial of the Grand Crusader without any wipes and 50 tries remaining! The Anub’arak fight becomes so very tense at this point, because any mistake can mess things up and cause a wipe.

Personally I am not a fan of this limited tries per boss strategy, due to the extreme delays it may cause to wait for cooldowns and, which is even worse, the huge frustration that comes with a wipe.

Not like Ravencrest is a particular stable Realm, but we have many players with random disconnects here and there, especially hunters and rogues which have the particular important job of misdirecting adds to the tanks. A little disconnect may cause a wipe and ruin Insanity.

In the end you are never happy that you killed Anub in 49 tries, which is still better than most guilds manage. Instead you are insanely frustrated by a mistake. Imo Blizzard should think this over and find more suitable ways to create challenges.

Borked: Alone in the Darkness

We almost forgot about Alone in the Darkness and decided to give it a try again. It turned out to be still somewhat challenging and we almost made it in a clean kill!

Doh, I lost the Roll on Mimiron’s Head, but there is always another try! Anyway Gz to for Alone in the Darkness! Without the help of any Watchers!

Edit: I found it quite funny, but here is a picture fo our second kill:

As you can see it was another flawless kill! But who cares as long as the Boss is down!

Borked – Tribute to Mad Skill

Borked Guild did it again! It finally payed off polishing our tactics on Anub’arak, final boss in the Trial of the Grand Crusader. We were consistently bringing him into Phase 3 and got on our first kill “A Tribute to Skill” with 35 tries remaining last Monday.

Now we even managed to improve our success and got “A Tribute to Mad Skill”, by killing the ugly bug with 48 tries remaining. Too bad that we had two stupid wipes before, but that leaves room for progress next reset! Really well done Borked!

A Big Grats to Borked Guild for completing the 3rd Atiesh

With SFX, our Gnome Warlock, Borked Guild has completed the third Atiesh last weekend.

The first Atiesh went to Fs (Druid), followed by Viracocha (Priest). I hope for our mages that the next Atiesh will not take too long.

On a sidenote, thanks to Borked, I have finally been able to get my dreamweapon “the Castigator“.

Too bad that it ended in a little drama, but now there might be an open spot for an experienced Rogue in Borked. You might want to check if you meet the requirements and apply at the Borked Website.
