The holiday event “Love is in the Air” started last night. You can now complete Achievements and purchase old and newly added items. Those however require a sh.. big load of Love token. There are a couple of of ways to get these. The event boss will drop 6-10 Love Token once a day, then there is the usual daily quest grind and you can purchase love token with Charm Bracelets. These can be farmed!

Lovely Charm farming

Before you start make sure you have a “Lovely Charm Collector’s Kit“. With this item in Inventory you have a chance to get a Lovely Charm, when you kill a Monster of appropriate Level (green+). If you have 10 Lovely Charms you can convert these into a Charm Bracelet, which can be used to purchase a Love token.
The Big Question is “Where is the best Spot to farm Lovely Charms?”

Icecrown

West of Ymirheim and south of the Shadow Vault (around 40.0|50.0) is an area where Converted Heroes spawn quite fast in packs of ~8 Mobs. If you have the luxury of having a feral druid with PvP Set you can gather Lovely Charms quite fast. Instant Flight Form, snare removal via shifting and swipe are amazing tools.

Throne of the Tides

You can use the normal version of the instance and need to clear up to the last boss – basically you need to kill Lady Naz’jar to get access. The tunnel that leads to Ozumat is the home of Tainted Sentries and Unstable Corruptions. You clear the 2 first 2 Tainted Sentries, but keep the last 2 ones alive. Now an unlimited number of Unstable Corruptions will spawn, roughly 15 each 15-20 seconds.

Killing these will reward you with Lovely Charms. This spot is good for 700-800 Lovely Charms per hour. As you can see I was able to get 6×40 ~ 240 charms in 20 minutes.

Farming Tips!

• wait for all mobs to repspawn after you cleared the 2 elite roamers
• gather the Unstable Corruptions in 2 groups
• the ones at the entrance & at the pool of water in the center as first group
• the remaining ones that gather towards the boss as second group

Mobs will respawn in relation to when they have been killed. By seperating them you will get them to gather more convenient and faster, kill them faster and thus last but not least respawn faster overall.

Interview

You can find the whole Interview here, I’ll just mention a few highlights.

Oh well, what can I say? The Patch has been out a good month and the excitement is ebbing down a bit. The Deathwing fight has a shallow taste since we do not actually fight Deathwing, just some tentacles and crap … and in Dragon Soul you simply chop him down from 20% and he does not even fight back.
Of course we haven’t beaten all on heroic, but we have seen it all and while it is still fun I am not sure that will hold “a couple of months more”.
The exact wording is “the three excellent dungeons we have, the new raid, and Raid Finder that should give people something to sink their teeth into for a few months“.

Mists of Pandaria

All expansions so far were at least a 3-4 months on beta. MoP is not even in Alpha stage, yet. This means we still have at least 4 (more likely 5-7 months) before it goes live. Wonder if they can really afford to not bring new content up to then.

Bring new Content faster

If you have read blue posts and dev blogs you have heard that one before. In fact it was one of the goals Blizzard had in mind for Cataclysm. But we had never had in any expansion this little content updates before. WotLK and Catyclysm were roughly released at the same time of the year, but now one year later we have less contentupdates than before.

Wrath of the Lich King

• Obsidian Sanctum, Eye of Eternity, Naxxramas
• Ulduar
• Trial of the Crusader
• The Brood Mother Returns: Onyxia
• Icecrown Citadel
• Ruby Sanctum

Cataclysm

The locations in Dragonsoul are simply recycled content. Path of the Titans, Wyrmrest Temple, Maw of Go’rath, Maw of Shu’ma, Airship and the Maelstrom with a few Bosses added. Also the Models do not have any new look, just a bit customized, recycled models.
Basically we payed ~72€ on monthly fees to get it.
Recycling old content seems to be the biggest thing in Cataclysm. Shadowfang Keep, Deadmines, Zul’Aman, Zul’Gurub.

Random Heroics

Speaking about these last two instances. The current System for heroics is also a major step back and is part of the daily (weekly) heroic instances System. In Wrath of the Lich King you did get a random heroic daily, but not just from the last 2 published batch. This made the system a lot less boring than the current system. I mean we ran Zul’Gurub and Zul’Aman for 7 months, just these 2 instances, 7 times a week … roughly 210 times … and now we will run End Time, Well of Eternity and Hour of Twilight equally often – yay! I think this is what Dave Kosak referred to “something to sink their teeth into”.

what would I do

To improve the current game I would:

• Fix the Looking for raid Loot System
• Exclude non soulbound items from calculating Item Level
• Introduce a separate PvP Item Level
• Merge all 5 man heroic instances into “Random Cataclysmic Heroic”
• Prepare a new Sanctum at Wyrmrest Temple, in case MoP is still more than 4 months out

And please Blizzard bring content faster! It doesn’t always have to be a new raid or new instances, or a ton of features at once. Sometimes little things help to cover time much better than a whole bunch of content.

Eliminate the Competition!

If the Raid Finder pops up and shows that 1/8, 2/8, 3/8 of the bosses are killed you can join and check the raid without penalty in case tehre is too much competition, you can leave right and queue right away again. Only on 0/8 you get 30 min deserter debuff. With Deserter debuff I log another char and test my luck again.

As soon as joining the raid you should check the competition. For example if you are looking for tier token, then leave the raid as soon as there are 5 or more (6 for vanquisher) rollers for it. Even with 5 rollers it is unlikely that you actually win something. You have the whole week to complete the runs, there is no disadvantage leaving raids and hoping for better chances next raid.

Usually I divide raids into tier and weapon/trinket gathering. I am not that picky when it comes to tier, but as soon as spine and madness is up I will immediately leave if the chances are bad.

One thing you should keep in mind, there is a role bonus for loot but overall the system is really stupid. A balance druid is classified, as a feral druid as dps. This means both would get a role bonus when rolling on the agility staff, or int trinket.

Use this system to your advantage. As enhancement shaman it is not difficult at all to find a raid where you are the only dps shaman and there is no rogue. Should the axe drop you’d be the only roller with role bonus.

What can you do about competition?

At first, vote kick your competition. You will often notice that many people have already 2-3 votes on them, since people already do that en masse. It is better to get the competition out than actually being kicked.

They are afk? Play like crap? Missing enchants? Whine about it in raid chat. Whining sucks, everyone hates whiners, but they hate slackers even more! You’d be surprised how many people like to vote kick people for no reason, especially once the window pops up.

NEED!

The system does not reward you for being nice, there is only drawbacks. I know it sucks, personally I prefer to pass loot to people who need it more, but LFR is different. Everyone needs on everything they can and you can’t expect this kindness. LFR means that once a week you will be able to roll on loot per boss. It does not matter, if you pass, greed, need.

Even if you do not need and item, you can try to use it to get an item someone else won. For example I won two leg token on my shaman and was able to trade one of it into a glove token that a warrior won to get 4 piece bonus.

If you don’t want to be an ass you can, at the end of the raid when it is clear that you won’t be able to trade your won items for anything useful, give out the surplus loot to other players.

Arrange Rolls

Of course it is always a risk, but you can try to arrange rolls with other people. Ask if they need the item you are after (and also risk to make them even aware of it, since some of them will roll on it, just to piss you off) or simply inspect them. If they have the item already it may be possible that they are not interested – apart from vendor value – to roll again.

Other than that you could maybe convice a – as enh shaman – elemental shaman, that you roll for him on int gear, while he rolls for you on Agi gear and then hope the player holds the deal.

Friends

Bring friends, it makes all of the above easier! It is always good to have people you can trust. You can focus your vote kicks, get a higher chance to win rolls and manually trade loot.

I had spent weeks camping one of his spawn spots but never had the luck to get him to spawn for me. during the time I have been able to take down Vyragosa (rumors are that the Time-Lost Proto-Drake is a rare spawn of Vyragosa) a good 12-15 times but it was always others who ended up finding the Proto-Drake. Christmas however seemed like the perfect opportunity to camp Storm Peaks. Indeed noona had been online 24th-25th at night and I was able to get him.

Tactics

The adds have roughly 250k hp, and hit for less than the average level 85 mob, but the amount of mobs and their abilities can still make this fight a little challenge. Basically the encounter features a moonkin, a healer, the boss, a warlock + felhunter and a mage.

At first I’d go for the priest “Blindeye the Seer” and interrupt his heal, his heal can heal up quite a chunk of health and thus slow the remaining kills down. As second I’d go for the warlock “Olm the Summoner” and his pet, since he casts a nasty death coil every few seconds.

The third add I’d put to rest is Krosh Firehand, he casts nasty fire balls and has a spellshield which reduced magical damage taken. You used to have a mage tanking him, who had to spellsteal the buff to be able to take the huge hits (they hurt at level 70 when you had like 12k hp). So don’t forget to purge his shield.

The remaining add and Maulgar himself are pretty straightforward and easy. Just kill them, don’t forget to use Tremor Totem to get out of Maulgar’s Fear.

If you look at the video I tried to have Grounding totem up, but with all the casters it is just gone to fast to be useful, you are probably better off using windfury.

Gruul is kind of easy, you can kill him way before his Hurtful Strike becomes a problem and the other major killer ability is his shatter, but with no one else around not even that will become an issue.

Plague Quarter

The Plaguewing is one of 5 wings inside the level 80 raid Instance Naxxramas and harbours 3 Bosses, Noth the Plaguebringer, Heigan the Unclean and Loatheb. The most famous one is probably Heigan with erupting poison waves in his room, that require precise movement, the Heigan Dance! The videos all show first kills, so the tactic at the start of each fight isn’t perfect, read below for some tips!

Noth the Plaguebringer

Let’s start with Noth, as he is the first encounter in the Plague Quarter. From time to time he spawns some adds, throws some curses, cripples your attack speed and teleports to the balcony to spawn more adds. As you can see I haven’t been there in a while and the fraps was my first attempt. As shaman make sure to dispell the curse and kill adds asap, you can save shamanistic rage – glyphed – to remove the cripple as it will hamper gaining MSW stacks. Should have thought about that before rushing in like a cowboy

It appears Noth the Plaguebringer drops a good 170ish gold and 2 epics.

Heigan the Unclean

Back in wotlk, the Unclean was my weekly reminder to brush my teeth and take a shower, but what he was really famous for is erupting poison over the room. The eruptions follow a pattern, the Heigan Dance. Fortunately you do not have to pay attention too much about it solo. In raids you put the casters on the platform and have melee dance across the room. Heigan casts a 300% casting speed debuff which made this tactic kind of necessary. But since you are always melee with him and get the debuff all the time you can basically stay on the platform all the time until p2 begins, then you need to do the dance.

Loatheb

Loatheb is the last boss inside the Plague Quarter. He has a nasty ability, blocking all healing for like 15 seconds, then giving you a few seconds only to heal up. Every few sec he will spawn a spore which causes you to do 0 threat, don’t take it too fast or he might kill your totems, and at the same time the spore will increase your critical strike chance by like 50%. Backpeddling on spore spawn might make it possible to have your wolves get the buff aswell. Other than that it is pretty simple, Heigan doesn’t hit hard and you might want to save Maelstrom Weapon Procs for the fading of the healing block.

Magical Damage

Since there is a lot of magical damage, frost and shadow, it makes sense to have Drums of Kings and Prismatic Elixir as buff, it will help a lot staying alive. Other than that I had the typical PvE DPS spec.

Avoid Blizzard

As you can see I ran in with no plan and just dps’d him down, at first I stood inside the blizzard, while it is smarter to circle around sapphiron. This way you can basically avoid the blizzard damage completely and just have the frost dot, dragon and drain life to deal with. You can also drop drain life with glyphed shamanistic rage, but I did not do that in the video.

Positioning

Once in a while Void Reaver pushes the player with the highest threat back and starts hitting the second highest one. So the idea is to fight void reaver at a slope in his room sp he can kock you a bit further away than normally, out of reach of the sliencing orbs, then you can cast 1-2 Spells before being silenced again.

Since we can’t use spells my choice of Weapon Imbues is earth living on mainhand and flame tongue on offhand, to get the most out of lava lash. You should check your previous parses, if your windfury or lava lash damage is higher and maybe go with wf / earthliving instead.

Imbues and Glyphs

Unleashing earthliving can be done while silenced and it does heal a good 5k and it can proc earthliving weapon for some more healing … and it gives + 30% to your next instant heal. This makes it really nice in this fight.

My pvp spec is enhancement resto, but it seems that too much defense is a bit counter productive there, it is easier to get him down faster.

The only 2 changes to my normal PvE loadout is the above mentiones Earthliving and Glyph of Stoneclaw Totem. This glyph places a weak shield on you for a few seconds but it is strong enough combined with unleash earthliving to keep you above 50% hp.

Once in a while you will not be silenced then cast a heal, feral spirit or shamanistic rage. You can for example use feral spirit + spirit walk to get further away from the next impact, etc.

The Ethereals are coming!

Ethereals would be a race I’d be looking forward to play, while that won’t be possible now I am nevertheless glad that they made their way back into the game and aren’t restricted to the outdated outlands.

The new ability to transmogrify your armor, which basically means it will look like another piece or armor while keeping its stats will be introduced in Patch 4.3. The content patch will also bring more 5 man instances and finally the new raid against Deathwing. One thing after another, Transmogrification first!

Below are excerpts coming from various blue posts and the official preview.

“The Ethereals, emerging from the nether, will bring with them a new technology they call Transmogrification. They’re heading to the capital cities of Azeroth to set up shop and to offer adventurers a unique service — copying the appearance of one magical item onto another. They only ask for a modest gold donation to recoup their costs.”

Visiting a Transmogrifier will present players with a new interface that will allow them to change the appearance of an item while retaining its original stats. This means that you can raid in your paladin tier 12 Immolation set, but look like you’re wearing Lightbringer, while priests can bring Benediction back — at least in spirit.

Restrictions

Blizzard aims to start this service with quite a lot of restrictions and then take it from there. There are also plans, that will most likely not make it to Patch 4.3. For example making gear “available by other means”, if it is no longer possible to acquire. What this exactly means I cannot tell you It is not unlike that we will see a comeback of for example Tier 3 and my favourite Misplaced Servo Arm.

Anyway here are snippets from blue posts about restrictions that will apply:

• If you want to obtain the look of gear that you’ve deleted in the past, then yes, you’ll need to farm that old gear back.
• The gear also still has to have stats aside from armor on it. That means that there are a lot of white or grey items that might not be available initially when Transmogrification goes live
• You must also be able to wear both items when using this service
• Similarly, they [Ethereals] won’t allow you to change weapon or armor types
• Sneaky death knights can’t make that breastplate look like a cloth robe, and you can’t make a one-handed axe look like a two-handed axe, or transform a sword’s appearance into that of a mace. Guns, bows, and crossbows will be the exception to this rule
• Mainhand can only be applied to mainhand, and offhand can only be applied to offhand.
• You will not be able to transmogrify using a legendary item as either the source or the recipient of a change.
• Heirlooms will be eligible targets for Transmogrification, trading, mailing, auctioning or depositing an item in a guild bank will remove the Transmogrified art.
• If you transmogrify a Bind on Equip item, it will become bound to you. Items used in Transmogrification will also become non-refundable and non-tradeable as well.
• We would like to offer some alternative ways to get favorite items that are no longer available, such as perhaps the dungeon tier sets or the DK start gear.
• Weapons that look like fish, for example, probably won’t be available as source items for Transmogrification, even if one is technically a dagger and has stats.
• The gold cost for Transmogrification hasn’t been set in stone, but it’s likely to be very similar to Reforging, meaning it’d scale with item level.

Cool Stuff

I haven’t really been a fan of recent Tier sets and to give us the opportunity to wear those old sets with currents stats is kind of nice. There aren’t many items I would like to wear as Enhancement Shaman though, maybe the T5 Cataclysm set, or the Sunwell Set … but I won’t be able to run around as Bloodsail Admiral awww.

I kept my cool weapons, for example The Lich King Axes, various Fist Weapons, sadly I threw away the Black Temple and Ulduar maces. In general though I am a fan of understatement and will maybe trying to get some lower set, maybe the BRD Gladiator Set and Ironfoe

My favourite Warlock Set, Tier 5/Season 2. Agreed, it is not looking super fearsome on my little gnome. But an orc or human weaing this used to be a scary sight, especially since gear was not so easy to come at the time

Rogue

My favourite rogue gear is Bonescythe, sadly I dont have a full set, missing the chest, so I’ll show you Bloofdang instead! Meet the infamous Macerogue of Ravencrest Slant!

I’ll keep you updated on this, especially on the progress in BRD and Ironfoe There seem to be lots of possibilities to the new system, something for everyone.

Announcement

The original announcement, which you can look at here, Blizzard mentions only a few bosses. At the moment it is unclear if other Bosses, for example in Black Temple, Tempest Keep, Serpent Shrine Cavern, Doomwalker, etc are nerfed aswell.

The gold amounts on the following encounters have been substantially reduced: Flame Leviathan, Magtheridon, Gruul the Dragonkiller, Doom Lord Kazzak, and all encounters in Karazhan.

The first thing that struck me, when engaging Magtheridon, was that the Channelers no longer helped each other, they simply stood still channeling and only aggroed targets would fight back.

This should make the fight soloable for most classes now, except maybe mages.

How much Gold is left?

After a short while the Pit Lord lay dead in front of my feet, erm hooves … Now do not kill the messenger for the following horror news. While he still drops the same amount of items his gold was reduced by 90%. It seems they dropped his gold from ~500g to ~50g, which is a bit harsh, but on the other hand would explain the nerfs mentioned above.

Guessing wildy, I’d say this 90% nerf goes for Kazzak/Doomwalker aswell … not sure if the 250g raid bosses (Gruul, etc … ) are reduced to 50 gold aswell or – which is more likely imo – to 25 gold average.

You better make the rest out of the remaining resets if you are still working on “Got my Mind on my Money” (100k gold looted) Achievement. At the moment I can get about 6500g per reset, which indeed looks like a lot

Sartharion

The Onyx Guardian is in charge of Guardin eggs of the Black Dragonflight inside the Obsidian Sanctum. He has 3 Lieutenants at his side, which in this case I killed first.

Abilities

• Cleave – Inflicts 35% weapon damage on the target and chains to up to 9 players in proximity.
• Flame Breath – Inflicts 8,750 to 11,250 Fire damage to all enemies in front of the caster.
• Tail Lash – Inflicts 3,063 to 3,937 Fire damage to enemies standing behind Sartharion and stuns them for 2 seconds.
• Wall of Flame – Walls of Lava build at the sides and flood the area surrounding Sartharion.

In a Nutshell

The fight starts out fairly easy with not that much incoming damage. Sartharion hits for 9500-10000 and his breath for around 8000. His attack speed isn’t very high and as long as no Lava Blazes spawn there won’t be any issues. Eventually more and more Lava Blazes will spawn and you should try to kill some of them off, hopefulyl they won’t run for your wolves and come right for you. Try to not have them hit by the Lava Walls that come from time to time, since that will make them big and hit quite hard.

Pesonally I used Heroism late in the fight, when my health began to drop beyond what was self healable. In the end I almost got overrun by Lava Blazes, but it seems like the better decision to focus on the boss than wasting time to kill them off.
